1. Who is responsible
alokakiran.com is run by Aloka K, an individual in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) I am the data fiduciary for any personal data this site processes. This notice explains, in plain language, what that data is, why it is processed, and the choices you have.
The short version: the site collects almost nothing. There are no accounts, no forms that store data on my servers, no advertising and no sale or sharing of personal data.
2. Website analytics (only with your consent)
I use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which links are used, so I can improve the site. When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice. Until you accept, Google Analytics runs in a cookieless mode that sets no cookies and stores no identifier about you; it receives only aggregated, unidentified signals about page views. If you accept, Google Analytics sets its usual first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) which assign a random identifier to your browser so that repeat visits and the pages viewed in a session can be counted. If you decline, nothing changes from the cookieless mode.
Data processed when you accept: pages visited, buttons and links clicked (for example “book a call” or “download resume”), approximate location derived from your IP address at country or city level, device and browser type, and the referring site. IP addresses are truncated by Google before storage. Advertising features, personalised advertising and Google Signals are switched off. Google processes this data on my behalf as a data processor under Google’s data processing terms, on servers that may be outside India, including in the United States.
Purpose and legal basis: your consent under Section 6 of the DPDP Act, given through the banner. Retention: event-level data is kept in Google Analytics for 14 months and then deleted automatically; the analytics cookie itself expires after 13 months. You can withdraw consent at any time using the “Analytics preferences” link in the footer, which reopens the banner; choosing Decline switches analytics back to cookieless mode and you may also delete the cookies from your browser.
3. Booking a call
The “Book a call” buttons and the calendar on the Contact page use Google Calendar appointment scheduling. When you book, you enter your name, email address and optionally a note directly into Google’s booking page, which creates a calendar event in my Google account and sends confirmations to both of us. I use this information only to hold the call and to follow up on it. It is stored in my Google Workspace account and is subject to Google’s privacy policy in addition to this notice. I delete booking details that are no longer needed, and you can ask me to delete them at any time.
4. Email and LinkedIn
If you email me or contact me on LinkedIn, I receive whatever you choose to send. I use it only to reply and to carry on the conversation you started. I do not add you to any mailing list, and I do not share your details with anyone except where you ask me to (for example, making an introduction). LinkedIn processes messages under its own privacy policy.
5. Hosting and technical data
The site is served through a hosting and content-delivery provider. Like all web servers, it processes your IP address, browser type and the pages requested in order to deliver the pages and to protect the site from abuse. These technical logs are used only for security and operation and are retained by the provider for a limited period under its own terms.
The site sets one item in your browser’s local storage to remember your analytics choice, so the banner is not shown on every visit. This holds only the word “accepted” or “declined” and is not sent anywhere.
6. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to know what personal data I hold about you, to have it corrected or completed, to have it erased, to withdraw consent you have given, to nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf, and to have a grievance heard. Because this site collects so little, in practice the main actions are: withdrawing analytics consent (footer link), and asking me to delete a booking or an email thread.
To exercise any right, email hello@alokakiran.com with the subject line “Privacy request” and enough detail for me to find the information (for example the email address you booked with). I will acknowledge within two working days and respond within fifteen days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India once it is operational.
7. Children
This site is aimed at professionals and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the booking page, email me and I will delete it.
8. Changes to this notice
If I change how the site handles personal data, I will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to analytics would be reflected in the consent banner, which would be shown again.
